Super Cub Volume 1 Chapter 43 - Something Forgotten

Koguma put her sports bag filled with travel luggage for the school trip in the steel box in the back of her Cub.

The bag, which was small enough to be a travel bag, fit perfectly inside the box.

Did she choose a bag of this size by chance, or did she unconsciously anticipate that it would be like this? She probably chose a bag of this size simply to use it for outings on the Cub after the school trip was over.

After loading her bags, Koguma started her Cub’s engine. While it warmed up, she zipped up the jersey that she wore over her denim top and bottoms, re-tied the laces on her leather boots, and tightened the chin strap on her helmet.

She checked the front and rear brakes and lights, checked the tire pressure with her fingers, and then lightly turned the accelerator to check the engine response.

Everything was fine. After putting on her gloves, Koguma got on her Cub and left the bike parking lot of her apartment.

As she pulled out onto the road in front of her apartment, she looked back at her home one more time, and then looked back at the road in front of her and began to ride, keeping her eyes firmly on the direction she was going.

As soon as she went out on the road, Koguma squeezed the brakes, turned and headed back to the bike parking lot of her apartment.

She got off her Cub, went back to her apartment building, unlocked the door and entered her apartment. She had forgot something that she didn’t need for a school trip by bus, but couldn’t forget when she riding a Cub.

A motorcycle-use raincoat in the olive-green drawstring bag she sewed herself in high school home ec class. When it rained, this high-performance raincoat that she somewhat forced herself to buy in the summer would come in handy.

She took out a plastic bottle of tea from the fridge and brought it with her in a hundred-yen bottle refrigerating case. It would be a wasteful expense if she bought some at her destination.

After leaving and locking the front door, Koguma ran to her Cub, which she had left with the engine still running, and put the rainwear in the rear box.

The bottle case containing the tea bottle was hung from a hook near the Cub’s right-hand side, where she usually hung convenience store bags.

The first destination was the gas station closest to her home. There were roughly 160-170 kilometers to Kamakura. If she included detours and riding around at the actual location, it was a distance that would use up almost all of the gas in a Cub with a full tank.

There was still plenty of gas left in the tank, but Koguma decided to refuel immediately.

Just before noon, Koguma left her apartment near Hinoharu Station once again, having finished loading up her forgotten belongings.

If it weren’t for the fact that she was dressed in a denim top and bottom with the school jersey over it, she would look like a bank employee going to collect money or going to business.

It wasn’t a long trip across Japan, but a trip to the neighboring prefecture. That was enough for her.

After driving along the prefectural road for about one kilometer, Koguma turned left at the intersection in front of Hinoharu Station and headed southeast on Route 20.

It was the road Koguma traveled along many times, whether it was going to school, work, shopping, or just riding around aimlessly.

She filled up her tank at a self-service station just off Route 20, a place she frequented.

After paying at the automatic fare adjustment machine, she got a receipt. The receipt, which displayed the date and time, was a good record for Koguma, who didn’t keep a diary.

The next refueling would take place near Kamakura. That is, if she arrived there safely.
